The table below lists the wild mammals that can be seen in the area. |

Species |
Notes |

Hedgehog |

Mole |
Seem to be most active in February/March, with hundreds of molehills around, particularly in the field by the church. |

Common Shrew |

Pygmy Shrew |

Daubenton's Bat |
The best place to watch these bats is on Goldrill Bridge on a warm summer's evening. They fly very close to the water and are larger than the Pipistrelles. |
|
Pipistrelle Bat |
Very common in the summer months but they can be seen at any time of the year if the conditions are right. |
|
Common Long-eared Bat |
Evidence of roosting in some roof-spaces was discovered in October 2008 |

Stoat |
There have been a number of sightings between Beckstones and Dubhow. |
|
Weasel |
|
|
American Mink |
These 'unwelcome' animals are occasionally seen in Goldrill Beck and have been seen taking fish from a garden pond. |
|
Badger |
The Badger population seems to be increasing (as does the damage to gardens!). There are numerous setts in the valley. |
|
Otter |
Several sightings around the pool above Goldrill Bridge |
|
Red Deer |
There are nearly always 20 to 100 on the western side of Place Fell in the winter months. Bannerdale is the place to see them in Summer. |
|
Roe Deer |
More common in the valley bottom. Regularly seen and have done quite a lot of damage to gardens in the area this last winter, presumably due to lack of feed. Often a couple between Brotherswater and the camp site, also near to Goldrill Bridge. |
